'The Wonder Years' Star Danica McKellar Dishes On The Perks Of Motherhood: 'Boobs'
Winnie Cooper is all grown up – and she’s excited to share it!
Danica McKellar, who played the beloved Winnie Cooper on “The Wonder Years,” stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Thursday (looking stunning in a plunging fiery red dress!) to share her excitement over becoming a new mom, and the upper-body… assets… that motherhood has afforded her.
“I’ve wanted boobs since I was 10-years-old,” Winnie excitedly told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. “I finally got ‘em!”
The 35-year-old actress-turned-author gave birth to a son (Draco) with husband Mike Verta in September – hence her natural new voluptuousness – and told Billy and Kit that bringing the baby boy into this world was no easy feat.
“You delivered all natural, and it took 36 hours?” Billy asked the glowing new mom.
“Yes, 36 hours of labor — it was really something,” Danica told Billy and Kit. “But you know what? It was one of those challenges that I got to overcome. It’s one of those times that you tell yourself, ‘I don’t know if I can do this,’ because I didn’t know if I could it, and then you just push through, and believe in yourself.”
Danica, who writes math books for girls and is a three-time New York Times best-selling author, said that her years of inspiring young women came in handy during her excessively long labor.
“As I was in there in labor, I was going, ‘OK, just keep going. What do you tell yours girls? What do you tell your readers?’ Overcome challenges — you can do it. We’re all stronger than we think we are.”
“Not me, man,” Kit laughed. “I got the epidural. I checked in, they were like, ‘You’re not due for another month.’ I was like, ‘EPIDURAL.’
“I go, ‘Unless I’m gonna win some money or something, I want the drugs!” Kit joked.
“You know what? I if knew it was going to be 36 hours, I would’ve done that too — I’m sure of it,” Danica laughed.
Delivering Draco naturally did have its perks – because the actress was fully awake and coherent during her labor, she was able to complete the delivery herself.
“I did [deliver the baby myself],” Danica told Billy and Kit. “Well, the doctor started it, then I got to reach down and bring Draco up. It was amazing. It was probably because I didn’t have the epidural. I was fully alert.
“I would never trade that experience,” she added. “I would do it again, as painful and as horrible as it was at times, it was the most cathartic, amazing experience to actually feel everything and deliver the baby.”
Danica’s career journey has taken her from Winnie to [math] whiz. The actress is an advocate for empowering children through math – especially young girls.
Her three best-selling books, “Math Doesn’t Suck,” “Kiss My Math,” and her latest, “Hot X: Algebra Exposed,” are available in bookstores now.
