LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Despite rumors the third “Twilight” film, “Eclipse,” might land in the hands of Drew Barrymore, James Mangold and Paul Weitz, brother of “New Moon” director Chris Weitz – the third installment of vampire series will be helmed by a Spanish director.
According to Variety, Juan Antonio Bayona, who directed the Spanish-language horror-thriller “The Orphanage,” has been tapped for “Eclipse.”
Bayona, who is a protégé of Guillermo Del Toro (director of the upcoming “The Hobbit,”), has never directed an English-language film.
“Eclipse” is slated for a June 30, 2010 release.
When contacted by Access Hollywood, reps for Summit Entertainment, the studio producing the “Twilight” series, could not be reach for comment.
