Tom Cruise Offered 'Rock Of Ages' Movie Role
Twenty-four years after his big screen barstool serenade of Kelly McGillis in “Top Gun,” Tom Cruise may be getting ready to “Rock” out again on the big screen.
New Line Cinema has offered Tom a supporting role in the upcoming big screen version of “Rock of Ages,” a rep for the box office superstar confirmed to Access Hollywood.
The film, an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, will reportedly star Taylor Swift in the role of Sherrie Christian, which was first played by original Broadway “Legally Blonde” bombshell Laura Bell Bundy in the Los Angeles opening run of the play in 2006.
“American Idol” alum Constantine Maroulis was Tony-nominated for his starring role in the production’s Broadway run, which kicked off in 2008; a role which he still plays on the Great White Way.
If he takes the gig, Tom would reportedly play a bartender who gets the chance to belt out a handful of ‘80s rock classics.
The story follows a young rocker hungry for his big break and a small town girl chasing her dreams, both of whom land on the LA rock scene just as a legendary Hollywood venue is facing its demise.
Tom is currently shooting the fourth installment in the “Mission: Impossible” big screen franchise, scheduled for a December 2011 release, co-starring Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Josh Holloway and Paula Patton.
Production on “Rock of Ages” is expected to kick off in January 2011.
