LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Tom Cruise may have another “Mission: Impossible” on his hands.

A Paramount rep confirmed to Access Hollywood on Friday that a fourth film in the franchise was in the planning stages.

“It’s in the discussion stage,” the rep said. “Nothing green-lit.”

However, according to TV Guide, “M:I III” writer/director J.J. Abrams is already set to produce the film.

“Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing,” J.J., fresh off directing “Star Trek,” told the mag. “I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer.”

Whether or not he would return as director was not reported.

Either way, J.J. sounded ready to hook up with Cruise again when Access caught up with him at the “Star Trek” junket in April.

“I would work with him again in an instant,” J.J. gushed at the time. “I hope I get the shot. I could not have had a better time working with him.” “Mission: Impossible III,” released in 2006, grossed over $134 million domestically and almost $400 million worldwide.
