Tom Cruise’s newest action film, “Edge of Tomorrow”, launched an assault on the box office this weekend, bringing in $29.1 million during its first weekend.
In honor of Tom’s latest action trek, AccessHollywood.com counts down Tom’s top 10 action scenes of all time!
10) “Knight and Day” (2010)
Racing through the streets of Spain at unadvised speeds; Cameron Diaz sitting on his lap shooting at bad guys-- what more could you ask for?
9) “Minority Report” (2002)
He’s on the run from the men he used to work with for a crime he hasn’t committed yet, in this futuristic thriller. Oh, and jetpacks are involved!
8) “Jack Reacher” (2012)
Can’t argue with a classic American muscle car evading the police while trying to catch the men who are actually responsible for the crime!
7) “Days of Thunder” (1990)
Call it Cruise in control. Tom ran circles around the competition in arguably one of his more underrated action performances — especially in this scene when he claims the checkered flag from his rival.
6) “Mission: Impossible” (1996)
A bullet train, a helicopter and an explosive piece of gum all in a tunnel make for one of the most memorable scenes from Tom’s first big screen “Mission.”
5) “Collateral” (2004)
Wait, what!? Tom Cruise is the bad guy? Yes, he is and he absolutely kills it in this nightclub scene.
4) “The Last Samurai” (2003)
This pivotal scene catapults an American soldier on the outside looking in to an American samurai fighting on the inside to help protect a small Japanese village from a ninja attack.
3) “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol” (2011)
Grand on every level, Tom scales the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, which stands at 2,717 feet — and yes, he did his own stunts.
2) “Top Gun” (1986)
Tom takes flight as Maverick, teaming up with Val Kilmer’s Iceman to take down a couple of enemy planes in this instant classic. So good, there’s an easy argument this could top the list.
1) “Mission: Impossible” (1996)
Light on explosions, heavy on pulse-racing intensity, arguably the scene that put the “Mission: Impossible” film franchise on the map, as Tom dangles and dazzles — all while not breaking a sweat. Well, almost.
