Prime-time newcomer Jay Leno says he would have rather stayed put at “The Tonight Show” — and if NBC offered him that job again, he’d take it.
In an interview with Broadcasting & Cable magazine published online Monday, Leno hastily added that such a decision isn’t his to make.

Conan O’Brien turned his “Tonight Show” stunt injury into laughs at his expense by showing footage of the cringe-worthy backward fall on a hard studio floor.
“As many of you may know, on this past Friday’s show I was doing a stunt and I hit my head and suffered a slight concussion. And I promise, if you’re a good audience, I’ll do it again tonight,” O’Brien said during Monday’s taping.

With less than a week to go before “The Jay Leno Show” begins on NBC, Leno describes himself as “laid back” — especially compared to his debut as “Tonight Show” host.
In a teleconference Tuesday, Leno took a jab at NBC, noting its fourth-place position in the network ratings and suggesting his show couldn’t do any worse. It debuts Monday, Sept. 14.
