LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Denise Richards is re-opening the wounds of her explosive three-year marriage with ex-husband Charlie Sheen. During an appearance on Tuesday’s “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Denise alleged publicly, once again, that she was the victim of abuse at the hand of her ex-husband.

“He never hit me,” Denise told Oprah.

“Did he ever push you… shove you?” Oprah asked.

“Yes,” Denise claimed, adding, “Well, it’s public knowledge that I did have a restraining order so… and it was because of that.”

“Were you afraid for your own life?” Oprah asked Denise.

“Yeah, I was, I mean, I was,” she said. “I was terrified.”

Denise said she told her ex-husband that she planned to be forthcoming in her interview.

“I told him I was going to be honest about some things because I’m sure he doesn’t want me to be too honest about stuff,” she told Oprah.

Charlie has always denied Denise’s allegations of abuse and in 2006 defended himself to Access Hollywood’s Tony Potts.

“These are merely somebody’s claims. This was the only way to get what they so desperately want… which is to control… to physiologically terrorize… to punish,” he told Access in 2006. “At some point I will just have to pray for her.”

Currently, Charlie is dealing with yet another allegation of abuse, when on Christmas day he was arrested after wife Brooke Mueller claimed she was threatened with a knife. Again Charlie denies any wrongdoing, and Denise told Oprah she got a jail house call while he was still in custody.

“He said, ‘I’m in jail,’ and he and Brooke got into a fight and she called the cops,” Denise said recounting Charlie’s call. “He said, ‘Well, I didn’t want the day to go by without saying Merry Christmas to the girls,’ which I thought was really nice.”

Denise told Oprah the recent events might help the public understand her experience with Charlie.

“I can’t say I feel vindicated because on one hand it’s a very sad situation,” she explained. “On the other hand, I think, perhaps, people can understand what I was going through a little bit.”
