LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Tony Romo has swung back at rumors that he is engaged to Jessica Simpson.

"It's just rumors," the Dallas Cowboys quarterback told People on Monday. "That's what people say."

The romance between Romo and Simpson first became public knowledge around Thanksgiving last year, when the pop star invited the jock to her family’s Texas home for the holiday.

The couple attracted a host of attention not long after, when Simpson appeared at one of Romo’s worst season games, cheering him on in a pink jersey bearing his name.

Despite fans and even Romo’s teammates dishing out digs at the couple, the quarterback remains smitten.

"We’ve done a lot of fun stuff," Romo told People of what the two like to do together. "Any time you get away [you try and] do some interesting things. We just went to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. That was pretty fun."

As for the future however, Romo isn’t ready to go the whole nine yards just yet.

"I'm sure I'll get married one day. I don’t know when," he said.

In related news, Romo said Simpson’s upcoming album of country music is coming along nicely.

"She's working hard," he said. "She's doing a great job, and I'm really excited about the way it sounds. It sounds real good. I'm excited."
