U.S. Swimmer Jessica Hardy Tests Positive For Banned Substance

Swimmer Jessica Hardy’s trip to the Beijing Olympics could be in jeopardy after testing positive for a banned substance, according to a person familiar with the test results.

Hardy’s “A” sample from the recent U.S. Olympic trials tested positive, the person told The Associated Press on Wednesday night. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

China Bars Flights During Olympics Opening

Airlines are being told to stay away from Beijing’s airport during the opening ceremony of the Olympics and further scrutiny is being applied to foreign entertainers in the latest security moves ahead of next month’s games.

No official announcement has been made, but local media and airlines said Friday that the Beijing airport will close for about four hours during the opening ceremony, affecting dozens of flights.

The strip clubs in New York must have been ghost towns last night, because a bevy of busty, barely dressed bleached blondes were at the nightclub 40/40, awaiting the arrival of Alex Rodriguez, who was hosting a pre-All Star Game party at the hotspot.

At around 11:15 PM, 75 minutes after the party began, Rodriguez was escorted into the club, along with his manager Guy Oseary and model/restaurateur Ingrid Casares, who were the ones who originally introduced the slugger to their close friend, Madonna.

Shanteau Plans To Put Off Cancer Surgery Until After Beijing Games

Olympic swimmer Eric Shanteau is heading to Beijing with a startling diagnosis: He has cancer.

In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, Shanteau said he learned just a week before the Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb., that he has testicular cancer. His doctors cleared him to compete in that meet and he surprisingly made the team in the 200-meter breaststroke, finishing second ahead of former world-record holder and heavy favorite Brendan Hansen.

Alex Rodriguez’s wife filed for divorce Monday, calling her husband an adulterer who “emotionally abandoned his wife and children.”

“The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband’s extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct,” according to Cynthia Rodriguez’s petition for dissolution of marriage, filed in the family division of Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.

The New York Yankees third baseman, who earned his 12th All-Star selection Sunday, has refused to comment on his relationship with Madonna, who denied any romantic involvement with the slugger.

Newspaper Claims Clemens Had Affair With A 15-Year-Old McCready

Roger Clemens had a decade-long relationship with country star Mindy McCready that began when she was a 15-year-old aspiring singer and the pitcher was a Boston Red Sox ace, the Daily News reported.

Clemens’ lawyer, Rusty Hardin, confirmed a long-term relationship but told the newspaper it was not sexual.

“He flatly denies having had any kind of an inappropriate relationship with her,” Hardin said. “He’s considered her a close family friend. … He has never had a sexual relationship with her.”

Clemens was 28 and a married father of two when he first met McCready, the newspaper reported.
