The Los Angeles Times on Monday retracted stories that implied purported associates of Sean "Diddy" Combs assaulted Tupac Shakur in 1994 and that Combs knew about it ahead of time.
The newspaper said the March 17 online story and a shorter version in the newspaper on March 19 relied heavily on what turned out to be phony FBI documents. The stories were written byPulitzer-prize winning staff writer Chuck Philips.

A TOUCHDOWN FOR ROSIE?: Rosie O’Donnell may be gone from “The View,” but she’s definitely not through with the small screen. Along with reprising her role as Dawn Budge on FX’s “Nip/Tuck,” she may also be lacing up some cleats for an appearance on NBC’s football drama, “Friday Night Lights.” “Rosie’s a big fan of ‘Friday Night Lights,’ as we know from ‘The View,’ and we heard she was interested in being on the show,” executive producer Jason Katims reportedly told . “Usually we don’t do any stunt casting, but we have a character coming up six or seven episodes into the new season; of a female soccer coach who is really angry about all of the school’s resources going to football. It’s a really funny character and I think she’d be perfect for it.” While Katims stressed that Rosie’s appearance would only be for one episode, he said that “if she comes out, loves doing it, and wants to do more, she could do it.” O’Donnell’s rep, Cindi Berger, told Ausiello that there are “no definitive plans,” but confirmed that the wheels are in motion. “They are in talks and she loves the show,” she said. As for Rosie herself: she responded to two different fan questions regarding an “FNL” appearance on her , writing “sure would,” and “if they ask me, yes.” Our own Dish of Salt, Laura Saltman spoke to “FNL” stars Zach Gilford and Scott Porter at this week’s NBC press event, and they said the cast sent Rosie a gift basket full of footballs to thank her for being such a vocal fan of the show when she was on “The View.” Additionally, Laura overheard NBC Entertainment Co-Chairman, Ben Silverman, telling the cast of “Friday Night Lights” he could try and get his friend Lance Armstrong on the show!

Though the party featured a live appearance from Diddy and plenty of gawking at arm-locked re-BFF?s Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton, talk was aflutter about pop chanteuse Britney Spears filing for divorce from her husband of two years, Kevin Federline. One reason for all the gossip included the presence of a slim Shar Jackson, former ?Moesha? star and mother to two other of K-Fed?s babies. Though Shar passed through the red carpet without giving interviews, she did tell Access Hollywood inside the event that despite the announcement she ?wasn?t going to miss the Playstation party.?So what did the stars have to say about the news of Britney?s split? Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean, who knows the singer and is also labelmates with her on Jive Records, offered words of encouragement. ?My advice to her is to pray about it and to reach out to family and friends and loved ones,? he said last night. ?Keep your head up. It?s not the end of the world and just look at yourself and go, ?You?re no better and you?re no worse than anyone else.? She?s a trooper. She?s a mom. If she can do that and still make a record right now, she can do anything and if she needs any advice or anything, give me a call.?A newcomer to the glare of the camera eye, ?Idol? runner up Katharine McPhee said she was pleased to see pictures of Britney looking trim and sprightly, skating at Rockefeller yesterday. ?I love it. I think it?s fabulous. I know she went through [a lot]. We all watched that interview she did with Matt Lauer and how difficult this whole thing has been with paparazzi so I think it?s great,? Katharine said. ?I think she needs to move on and find herself again.?Despite going through his own public split with now ex-wife, former Playmate Nikki Ziering, ?90210? star Ian Ziering was at a loss for words about the news. ?I have no advice,? he shrugged. ?Good luck [to her],? he added.A surprising figure at the event, political satirist Bill Maher, wondered aloud about the attention being focused on the split in the wake of the recent election. ?I think that on Election Day, it?s hilarious that you ask me that,? he smiled, before turning back to face Access Hollywood and adding, ?I wish her the best of luck.?Funnyman actor David Arquette, however, had the most impartial advice of the night. ?It?s crazy because all the Hollywood aside, they?re people and it?s a relationship and it?s always hard,? he said. ?There?s a lot of stuff people have to deal with so I wish them both the best

New York(September 12, 2006) — In the years since hip-hop lost its most dynamic figure, several superstars have embodied the qualities that made Tupac Shakur such a legend.50 Cent’s vicious raps and bullet-scarred body recall Shakur’s reckless, dangerous side. Eminem’s tortured lyrics remind us of Shakur’s dark and depressing images of life. Jay-Z’s many hits are reminiscent of Shakur’s prolific output. But 10 years after Shakur died on Sept. 13, 1996, the victim of a drive-by shooting, no rapper is as complex, as multifaceted, as challenging. A handsome and charismatic actor, a violent felon, a brilliant songwriter, a reckless celebrity, a misogynist and a visionary — Shakur still fascinates from the grave.“I want to be in the future known as somebody,” Shakur once said. “I want people to be talking about me, like, ‘Remember when he was real bad?’”They’re still talking. Unlike so many other rap stars, Shakur represented an actual character, instead of a caricature.
