OK, this is probably not gonna be a very popular post. Let’s face it, an increasingly smaller and smaller group of people actually care about dance / electronic remixes nowadays. There was a glimmer of hope back at the turn of the 21st century, when dance music almost got “cool” again, but it was quickly eclipsed. Sure, every once in a while the occasional Paul Oakenfeld mix crosses over, but dance ain’t what it used to be.
Still, I’m a big fan of the genre. And believe it or not, Billboard still tracks it on their Singles Charts.
So, without further adieu, click inside for my Top 10 Club Remixes of Summer 2008…:

Even if you don’t recognize the faces of singer/guitarist Katie White (blonde, girl) and drummer Jules De Martino (sunglasses-at-night-wearing boy), you’ve no doubt heard of the Ting Tings by now.
The Manchester, England band’s super fun song “Shut Up And Let Me Go,” with those angular early ‘80s guitars and ‘70s disco-y synth lines were used for a recent hip iPod ad.
Find out why they are one of summer’s hottest new bands!

One of my best New York memories is attending Cyndi Lauper’s 50th birthday party aboard a pirate ship docked at South Street Seaport in 2004. There were pirates and drag queens and music industry folk and all sorts of ferosh-esness happening everywhere. Sorry Prince, Madonna and Michael — Cyndi beat you to “50 and Fabulous” by four years!
In sign number five of “the 80’s are back” this season (note: mostly all incredible new albums this spring by R.E.M., Madonna, the B-52’s, Journey, etc.), Cyndi Lauper has released her most amazing album of all new material since “Hat Full Of Stars” in 1993.

Meet Adele. She’s one of the “new Amys” — the term the UK press has given to the big-voiced girl singers who are taking over.
She’s only 20, doe-eyed and dewy-skinned, but her big soulful voice has Adele (no last name please) catching a lot of attention, including ours.

A little over a decade ago, Hanson knocked people’s socks off with “MMMBop,” but it wasn’t just what the song meant that had everyone baffled. As you’ll recall, it was the band’s ages. The three brothers were only in their teens and tweens and not only did they play their own instruments, they wrote their own songs.
The Jonas Brothers have kept the tradition alive, writing many of their own songs and playing their own instruments, but they aren’t the only ones.
We here at Access Hollywood’s music division think you need to know about a few more bands of younguns who are prepared to knock your socks off all over again.

There’s a reason Santogold is one of the coolest new artists around.
Her music is like dumping your cool, older brothers record collection on the floor and making a mixtape out of what fell out – some new-wave, reggae, electro, punk, ska and pop!

Oh how fast they grow up!
Jesse McCartney – just yesterday you were a bright eyed 17-year-old on the music scene penning WB TV show music for love struck teenage girls and caught drinking beers in LA nightclubs by tabloid Web sites!
But, child you are, no more!
With your third studio album effort – “Departure” – you’ve finally become a full-fledged music talent!

OK, I admit it – on first listen, I HATED Madonna’s latest album, “Hard Candy.”
And I’m a huge Madonna fan — I don’t have posters on my walls and I’m not a fan club member — but I’ve truly loved each of her past four albums — she makes pop music at it’s purest — and yes, I even liked “American Life.”
The first songs from the album, “Candy Shop” and “The Beat Goes On,” leaked months ago, and confirmed my worst fears – that Madge was dialing it in for her last studio album of new material with Warner Bros. (she’s recently signed a $100 million deal with LiveNation for recording and touring).
But, as is often the case, after setting the album aside, and listening to it again, there are some true gems on there.

Last Sunday, we were hot, tired and sweaty in a field of similarly hot, tired and sweaty patrons at Coachella, when, despite aching feet and a yearning for puffy hotel-room pillows, we trekked on — to the Mojave tent, just after 6PM for DJ A-Trak and Kid Sister.
Find out why we think Kid Sister is so special, and why you need to hear her now!

Words cannot describe the pop culture consumer satisfaction that has arisen in the depths of my music-fan soul with the release of R.E.M’s latest studio album, “Accelerate.”
It’s been a great spring for fresh music by established acts, and, like fellow Athens, Georgia alt rockers The B-52’s, the comeback of R.E.M. was even more refreshing because it came seemingly out of nowhere.
“Accelerate” hearkens back to an era of my teenage years when expressive political lyrics stirred hope and change in my heart (of course, the last time I felt this way, another Clinton was gunning for the presidency).

One of the perks of working at an entertainment news outlet is you get advance copies of new music. And it is especially gratifying when you pop a promo disc into your CD player — and are met with a sonic work of art.
Such was the case with UK bred singer/rapper Estelle.
