Ben Affleck Tours War-Torn Eastern Congo

Ben Affleck walks through a camp for displaced people, Wednesday Nov. 19, 2008, near Kibati just north of Goma in eastern Congo. Affleck is currently in Congo on his fourth trip over the last year, hoping to understand firsthand one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises of this century.

Ben Affleck is visiting refugee camps in war-torn eastern Congo, where at least 250,000 people have been displaced by recent fighting, and says more aid money is needed.

The actor has visited the Central African country four times since 2007 and also has made a documentary about its problems.

Years of sporadic violence in eastern Congo intensified in August, when fighting heated up between the army and fighters loyal to rebel leader Laurent Nkunda.

Rihanna has canceled a concert scheduled for Friday in Indonesia over security concerns.

Dive Purnomo, a spokeswoman for the event organizer, says the pop singer had been scheduled to perform before a sold-out crowd of 6,000 in the capital, Jakarta.
