LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Jay Leno had to cancel today’s taping of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” because of illness, Access Hollywood has learned.

“A repeat of ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ will air tonight as Mr. Leno is not feeling well,” a rep for the show told Access.

Leno was driven to the hospital earlier today. He was not taken by ambulance, a spokesperson for Leno told Access.

A “Tonight Show” rep added, “Jay Leno is doing just fine. He was kidding around with the hospital staff and running his monologue jokes by the doctors and the nurses. He’s expected back to work on Monday.”

Leno rarely gets sick. Today was the first time in his run with “The Tonight Show” that he has ever called in sick.

Rumors have surfaced the funnyman may be suffering from food poisoning, however that has not been confirmed. The star was kept “under observation” at a Los Angeles area hospital on Thursday.

Guests on tonight’s show were expected to be Ryan Reynolds, Jules Sylvester and swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy wrapped up their sound check just around noon, with their singer doing a spot-on impression of a Jay Leno-style introduction.

Friday’s episode of the long-running NBC series has also been canceled. A re-run will air instead.
