LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

The “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” cast left London last week amid reports that Zac Efron was attacked after leaving a theater with girlfriend and co-star Vanessa Hudgens – but the couple tells Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson that the press had the story backwards.

“I actually got hit in the face!” Vanessa says. “If anything, I was the one who got attacked, not Zac.”

According to Vanessa, the couple was leaving the Apollo Theater in London’s West End when a man got stuck in front of their car, blocking the entrance.

“There was a guy who was walking down the street and I think he was a little drunk and he got pushed into the craziness of it all,” she says. “He was blocking the door so our bodyguard had to push him aside.”

But when Vanessa sat down inside, she realized she’d been hit.

“I looked in the mirror and got a huge scratch and I was bleeding,” she says.

Meanwhile, Zac tells Shaun he had been so intent on getting in the car that he barely noticed the commotion.

“I just heard about it,” he says. “I was just focused on [the] van door – I’ve gotta get to it. I got in the van and we drove away… I don’t remember getting harassed.
