Why Sam Champion Left 'GMA'

Weather anchor Sam Champion left ABC & “Good Morning America” after 25 years to join The Weather Channel. What prompted Sam to make the move? How will Sam’s new show, “AMHQ with Sam Champion” cover weather in a new way? Plus, how did Sam’s husband factor into his decision to change jobs and move to a new city? “America’s Morning Headquarters with Sam Champion” premiers Monday, March 17 at 7AM on The Weather Channel.

Do I need this. That's right. That's it. All right. Welcome. Hello. Welcome. Thank you so much. Nice to be here. I didn't see that. Dramatic right there. Sam champion joining the NBC. Hello. How are you. I'm like a huge fan of you but I adore her by the way. I mean do I love him or do I love Sam. I don't know. Sam has his own morning show weather channel starting next week. A.m. Hq billboard everywhere and I haven't really seen them in the la I saw them New York. Head right down Ventura boulevard north. Go towards tarzana you will see them. There's a couple. I love it. I'm so happy. Still for me adjusting to gma without you there. It was such you are such a huge part of a tee. You were the glue I felt that kept all the energy together. Up until this point it's the most fun project I have ever had in television and the people are my friends to this day. I just had dinner with josh. I talk with them all and you know how it is. I have heard you guys talk about your chemistry and how it happened and it's a very rare thing. It's just when you have it, when the 2 of you relate like you do, off camera on camera it makes amazing television. And it doesn't happen very much. You know you get a lot of people sitting together at a desk and sometimes you don't have a lot in common with them and sometimes you don't believe or trust if them to handle an issue or finish your sentences and the audience can see it right away. If you trust each other you believe in each other and you know the show is first, it's a win. That's really an interesting point especially the one about you don't trust them to finish your thought. No bill actually that's not what I was thinking. And the laughter because And the laughter because for me the segment are always going to go as they should but it's the in between wanter that's the glue. Everything going through with robin and were you right there for her. I don't know. Just such a big part. To move. What was it what was the big reason for this moveism the big reason was that you know in our business you can stay doing what you are diagnose. Or someone gives you an opportunity to just be creative and I think the reason I got in this business is I love making television. I love talking television. I don't have a Roby. I don't collect stamps. I don't have antique cars. When I get together with my friends we all talk about TV all the time. We talk BYU guys work while your shoe is good why another show isn't. What 0could they do or change. So given the opportunity to build something for a place like the weather channel by the way is a solo brand. There's nothing better than the weather chapel out there to deliver weather period. So these people that are on the air there. They are amaze what they do. But very haven't been lifted America. America hasn't embraced the weather channel with solo place. You have to. It's 3 3. Weather is great everywhere. Well see the real story. This is something that I really, really like. I hate this and say you don't have weather. You lay to yourself. We did fabulous weather all weekend. Wait. Wait. We don't have wchblingts you have extreme weather all the time. If you drive from the valley to the beach you hit lake 4 micro climate that will completely change your day. You know completely change your day. And so I could say. Micro climate. I could spend 10 minutes talking about southern California weather. So doesn't always have been to a bad storm to talk about weather to plan your day. If you had to take the kid from to the coast to malibu or if you were going into the inland empire you would need to know what it was going on around you at all parts of the day. And inland empire. That's good. I love that. Just this right there. Talk to you later get that. Really great names too. San Luis obispo. All the good places. Grape vichbility your husband factor into it at all. Funny a lot was made out of that. It was because we had just gotten married and so many things kind of happened at the same time. What it michbilitys don't show that picture. Keep it up there. Is that a 12 pack or 6 pack. 24 pack. Insane. So what that means is that he is everything is wonderful. Everything is spiritual. Everything is great. He loved New York. He loves Miami. He loved Atlanta. And so for him it was lake whatever makes you happy baby. Whatever you want I'll go wherever we need to go. So there was never any -- that's why by the way that's one of the 50 million things that I fell in love with this guy over and never been in love before. You know when you meet someone that you think your life will only be okay if they are in it, it will only be all right if they are in it and that's the way I felt with him. He would never put a boundary on me about where we should go. And kids maybe? Our ca Our career has exploded. When do we have time for. That you guys know WYOU guys know what that entails. Let's get the show on the air. Don't move Sam because you make it look easy. Straight ahead. You put our. I can't wait for this. Weather reporting star here. Get on the green screen.
