LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
William Shatner was not spotted in attendance at the Hollywood premiere of “Star Trek” at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in April – but the former franchise star did at least get an invite.
The longtime “Star Trek” star, who originated the iconic role of Captain Kirk in the original series and films, is auctioning off his tickets to the film’s premiere on eBay to benefit his Hollywood Charity Horse Show.
Shatner has held the charity event for 19 years running; it benefits AHEAD with Horses, an organization that works with severely handicapped children, as well as other children’s organizations.
Bidding is currently at $550 for the tickets, which come with a certificate of authenticity and the star’s signature.
Shatner sparked controversy before the film’s release when he complained about wanting to reprise his part in the franchise reboot and feuded with former co-star George Takei, who played Mr. Sulu. (Another former co-star, Leonard Nimoy, returns as Mr. Spock in the film.)
Chris Pine took on the role of young Captain Kirk in the movie, which grossed $76.5 million in its opening weekend. As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the “Trek” writers did create a scene for William that was ultimately cut from the script.
