LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Now that his “Hangover” has passed, Zach Galifianakis is ready for “Dinner.”

The funnyman will join Steve Carell and Paul Rudd in the comedy “Dinner for Schmucks,” Access Hollywood has learned.

Based on a 1998 French film, the film focuses on a publisher who challenges his friends to bring the most pathetic guest to their weekly dinner gathering.

But when one of the guests arrives with a man who goes beyond the realm of pathetic, everyone else quickly realizes the guest is capable of ruining anyone’s life who spends mere minutes with him.

“Dinner with Schmucks” is being directed by Jay Roach, whose credits include “Meet the Fockers,” “Mystery, Alaska” and the “Austin Powers” trilogy.

Galifianakis, whose breakout role came as the eccentric Allan in “The Hangover,” will soon start filming the comedy “Due Date” alongside Robert Downey Jr.

He also currently stars in the kids’ film “G-Force” and will reprise his role as Allan in “The Hangover 2,” slated for release in May 2011.

The comedian will also be seen on the small screen in the upcoming HBO comedy series “Bored to Death,” which premieres September 20.
