80’s Supergroup Journey Gets Another New Lead Singer

LOS ANGELES (December 20, 2006) — Journey has gotten yet another frontman.

Jeff Scott Soto has been named as the new singer, replacing Steve Augeri, who replaced Steve Perry.

Soto came in as a fill-in when Augeri left the Journey tour in July because of illness.

The band says in a statement they’re grateful to Augeri for all the years he gave to them, and they wish him the best.

They say Soto has proven himself “above and beyond that he can sing the hell out of our songs.”

Augeri calls singing for Journey “the most challenging and the most rewarding of my career,” and he wishes them success and happiness.

Soto says he hopes to “help drive Journey into the next stage of this band’s future.”

The statement does not say why Augeri is leaving, but it does say he’s recording his debut solo album, due out next summer.
