‘90210’ Hunk Matt Lanter: I Wasn’t ‘Beautiful Enough’ To Play ‘Twilight’s’ Edward Cullen

Matt Lanter has no problem making the girls of West Beverly swoon, but the “90210” heartthrob didn’t quite have the looks the producers of “The Twilight Saga” were looking for to play Edward Cullen.

During an appearance on “Whatever with Alexis & Jennifer” on the Hallmark Channel on Monday, Matt told the gals he auditioned for the role that eventually made Robert Pattinson a global phenomenon – but he was told his looks were lacking.

“Did you try out for ‘Twilight?’” host Jennifer Koppelman Hutt asked Matt. “For the role of Edward Cullen?”

“I actually did, yeah,” Matt revealed.

So, why didn’t the easy-on-the-eyes 27-year-old actor land the role?

“Well, [the casting director] said that I was not ‘hauntingly beautiful enough,’” Matt explained.

Of course, Matt did get to have some fun at the franchise’s expense, as he played Edward Sullen in the “Twilight” spoof “Vampires Suck.”

However, as far as “Whatever” host Alexis Stewart – the daughter of domestic diva Martha Stewart – was concerned, the casting director made the wrong call.

“You’re much better looking than he is,” she told Matt of Robert Pattinson. “Maybe that’s why you didn’t get the job.”
