Aaron Kelly’s ‘Idol’ Journey Started In Theme Park, Camp

Aaron Kelly may have been sent home from “American Idol” on Wednesday night, but the young singer’s still an “Idol” winner.

The 17-year-old won the “American Idol Experience” at Walt Disney World Resort in 2009, earning himself a “Dream Ticket” – a front-of-the-line audition for the big-time “Idol” show.

The park attraction opened on February 14, 2009, and allows contestants 14 and older to try their skills before Disney producers and directors.

Aaron also went to Idol Camp in 2007, a summer camp the show sponsored for kids under 16 in Northfield, Massachusetts.

All that “Idol” work paid off – he made it to the top 5 on the current 9th season before being voted off after his Harry Connick Jr. mentoring performance.

Only four finalists are still left in the running on the FOX reality competition; Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Lee DeWyze and Michael Lynche.
