ABC Cancels ‘Ugly Betty’

“Ugly Betty” has been canceled, ABC confirmed to Access Hollywood on Tuesday.

The show, which stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, a spectacled and braces-wearing fashion mag assistant, will walk its last primetime runway in April.

“Ugly Betty” made its primetime debut in 2006, airing before “Grey’s Anatomy.”

America won a Golden Globe for her role on the show, which also stars Vanessa Williams, Becki Newton and Michael Urie.

It was moved to Friday nights at the start of the 2009-2010 season, replaced in its usual primetime slot by “FlashForward.”

While the ratings dropped off in recent years, many called the show’s most recent season one of its best. Guest stars of late included Ralph Macchio and former “CSI: Miami” hunk Adam Rodriguez.

ABC had tried to ramp up the show’s viewership by moving it to Wednesday nights at 10 PM.

The last show will air this spring.
