ABC Orders S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot By Joss Whedon

The world of “The Avengers” –specifically “S.H.I.E.L.D.” – is coming to the small screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has ordered a “S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot from “The Avengers” director and writer Joss Whedon.

The series will be based on the comic book about the secret government organization (Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate) headed up by Nick Fury, as seen in “The Avengers.”

It is not known if Samuel L. Jackson, who played Nick Fury on the big screen, or any of the other Avengers characters will appear in the pilot or series.

According to Variety, Joss – who appeared at a discussion on “Sleepwalk with Me” at the Writers Guild Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday night – said the series would be mostly “autonomous” from the upcoming “Avengers” sequel.

Production on the pilot will reportedly begin immediately.

ABC is also reportedly developing TV project about The Hulk.
