Access Hollywood Votes: Top Albums of ‘06

As we wind down 2006, the staff at Access Hollywood presents our favorite albums of the year. From Grammy contenders to Vegas faves, these are the tunes that got our staff ? all the way from Music Researcher Alex Bandy, to co-host Billy Bush, rocking through the year.

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers Stadium Arcadium (Warner Bros.) Anthony Kiedis and the boys returned to the fold with one of their best albums ever. Soulful rock and smooth California grooves were appreciated all over the Access office and we here the Grammy committee enjoyed it too. They got six nods.
2. The Killers Sam?s Town (Island) Frontman Brandon Flowers started the campaign for the Las Vegas band?s second album mouthing off about a host of other outfits, but just as the record dropped, he apologized and made amends. The move allowed the drama to come strictly from The Killers? work ? their songs like lead single ?When You We?re Young? rather than from silly interband feuds. Now if only those Hollywood celebutantes would learn that lesson.

3. Justin Timberlake FutureSex/Love Sounds (Jive) JT got pulses racing from coast to coast and through the Access offices especially, helping him grab our third slot with FutureSex/LoveSounds. Timberlake proved he was no one-album wonder with this release, full of some of the slickest beats around (thanks Timbaland) and vocals as good as classic Michael Jackson.
4. The Beatles Love (Capitol) When Access Hollywood traveled earlier this year to the Cirque Du Soliel opening of Love in Las Vegas, these were the tunes we heard. Endorsed by the remaining Beatles — Paul McCartney and Ringo Star and the widows of John Lennon — Yoko Ono Lennon and George Harrison –Olivia Harrison, the 26 song effort was made up of renewed and remixed Beatles songs. And the man at the helm? Original Beatles producer George Martin and his son Giles making us forever grateful.

5. Corrine Bailey Rae s/t (Capitol); Christina Aguilera Back To Basics (RCA); Nelly Furtado Loose (Maverick); Yeah Yeah Yeah?s Fever To Tell (Interscope); Beck The Information (Interscope); Gnarls Barkley St. Elsewhere (Downtown/Atlantic) No, it?s not a fix! Six records tied for our fifth favorite album of the year. And really how could you choose between neo-soul princess Corrine, a return to form Christina, a sexed up Nelly, indie artists Yeah Yeah Yeah?s, quirky tunesmith Beck and enigmas Gnarls Barkley.
