Access Hollywood’s ‘Idol’ Expert David Foster Rates The Contenders

As the final 11 contenders get set to take the stage, “American Idol” will once again bring back the Beatles.

But before the competition begins, Access Hollywood’s “Idol” expert, multiple-Grammy winning producer, David Foster, selects his favorites to win it all.

“Amanda! Amanda [Overmyer] rocks,” Foster told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush. “I mean she just tore it up on that song,”

He of course was referring to her rendition of “You Can’t Do That,” which she performed last week.”

Another lady he’s pegged for the top?

“Definitely Brooke,” he said of blonde contender Brooke White, who took on “Let It Be,” sans shoes, last week. “I gotta say, the whole barefoot thing, it really worked.”

And the third lady he expects to be lucky? Carly Smithson.

“She has a unique sound,” he said. “This is a little premature, but I probably – at this point – if I had to pick a winner, it would be her.”

And in the gentlemen’s corner?

“David Cook,” Foster noted of the rocker. “He’s got a really, really good voice.”

However, Foster isn’t fully convinced.

“You know who he sounds like? The guy from Creed,” Foster said. “So where’s the uniqueness there? I don’t know.”

Another guy to he expects good things from? Aussie Michael Johns.

“Michael has a unique sounding voice. He doesn’t sing as good as David, but he’s better looking,” Foster noted.

And his last pick? – Jason Castro.

“That Jason, not the greatest singer in the world, but he has a sound,” he said.

But what does he think of front-runner 17-year-old David Archuleta?

“I like his voice a lot. I think there’s a guy that five years from now could be a real artist, but [it’s] kind of hard to be a great artist at 17.”
