Access Week In Geek: ‘Harry Potter’ Exits With Epic Conclusion

The Access Week In Geek takes a look at the final “Harry Potter” movie, which delivers as the series’ conclusion… 15 new images from “The Amazing Spider-Man” are revealed… Steven Spielberg is set to make his first ever appearance at Comic-Con… And, “Captain America” star Chris Evans rings the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange…

“WEEK IN GEEK” MOVIE PICK – The posters say “It All Ends,” and yes, what an epic ending it is indeed. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” is easily the latest “Week In Geek” Movie Pick after catching it in IMAX 3D.

For those of us who have been following Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively, since 2001’s “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” this swan song sends the series off in a fitting, dramatic, and at many times, an action-packed fashion. Long gone are those wide-eyed youngsters who tiptoed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Ten years and seven films later, cutesy kiddie moments are kept to a bare minimum as the three lead characters have grown into wizards on the cusp of adulthood dealing with death, sacrifice, love, loss and a destined final showdown with the dark overlord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).

The evil wizard’s climactic brutal assault on Hogwarts brings out the best in the remaining ensemble cast, and the resulting effects-laden spectacle is both thrilling and tragic. In addition, seeing some of the school’s familiar mystical professors bravely raise their wands in magical combat is truly a grand cinematic treat (that includes you, Professor McGonagall).

Running just over two hours (the shortest in the series), the film flies at a Quidditch match’s pace, and you will probably find yourself wanting more time with some of the supporting characters before the credits roll one last time. But this epic grand finale should send fans home satisfied and hoping author J.K. Rowling may one day conjure up further adventures in this magic world that has captivated millions of Muggles worldwide.

SPIELBERG TO HIT COMIC-CON – Steven Spielberg will be making his first appearance at Comic-Con on July 22. Fans surely will be tightly packed into Hall H for the “Tintin” presentation, his latest directorial effort. He also has two sci-fi TV shows making a presence at the annual event, TNT’s hit “Falling Skies” and FOX’s upcoming “Terra Nova.” The LA Times’ Hero Complex blog has the scoop.

NEW “SPIDER-MAN” IMAGES REVEALED – Andrew Garfield is unmasked in his Spider-Man costume on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s Comic- Con preview issue. EW.com has a sneak peek gallery of Garfield in superhero action sticking to a subway car ceiling, and also in various shots with his “Amazing Spider-Man” co-stars Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), Martin Sheen (Uncle Ben), Sally Field (Aunt May) and Ryhs Ifans (Dr. Connors/The Lizard).

KALEY CUOCO’S PSA PLEA TO COSTUMED FANS – “The Big Bang Theory” star addresses solutions to clichéd female nerd costume choices in this funny Break.com video directed by “Chuck” star Zachary Levi.

“EVIL DEAD“ REMAKE IS A GO – Groovy news for fans of the “Evil Dead” series: after years of speculation, a remake of the low budget horror classic “The Evil Dead” was confirmed this week with original director Sam Raimi (“Spider-Man,” “Drag Me To Hell’) set to re-team with star (and fan boy icon) Bruce Campbell (“Burn Notice”) as co-producers on the film.

First time director Fede Alvarez will shoot from his own script that is currently being polished by Oscar winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). Although Cody has already dabbled writing in the horror genre with 2009’s underwhelming “Jennifer’s Body” starring Megan Fox, her quick wit and smart tongue-in-cheek dialogue is a good match for the tone set by the original films.

Raimi is currently in the on-deck circle to direct the “Wizard of Oz” prequel “Oz: The Great and Powerful” starring James Franco, and Bruce Campbell joked via his Twitter account that he held out to cameo as the milkman in this new “Evil Dead” film.

“THE DARK KNIGHT RISES” POSTER REVEALED – A new teaser poster for “The Dark Knight Rises” went viral via the film’s official website (with one-sheet imagery very reminiscent of director Christopher Nolan’s last mind bending release, “Inception”).

The first teaser trailer for the final installment in the Batman trilogy starring Christian Bale is attached to “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” this weekend.

CHRIS EVANS OPENS THE NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE – Chris Evans rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Monday. Fans on the floor were given mini-shields adorned with The First Avenger’s patriotic logo and Evans was seen with a Captain America look alike decked out in the 1940’s era costume featured in the upcoming Marvel Studios film.

You can also check out this kick ass scene from the movie over at IGN where Evans is seen throwing his mighty shield in the manner fans have been eagerly waiting to see on the big screen.
