In the Access “Week In Geek,” Anne Hathaway finally confirms she will be Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises”… New images from “X-Men: First Class” and “Captain America” hit the web… And the new producers of “Blade Runner” reveal their plans for the franchise…
ANNE HATHAWAY TELLS OPRAH: “I’M CATWOMAN!!!” – Though not a surprising revelation to some, but technically still a confirmation, Anne Hathaway appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and told the talk show host that she will indeed be playing Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.”
To explain, the actress had been announced by Warner Bros. to portray Selina Kyle in the upcoming conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy, but noticeably absent was any direct mention of the character’s sinister feline alter ego. Though it seemed unlikely all along to fans that the Selina Kyle character would be introduced at the end of this “Batman” series, and not have her don the Catwoman costume at some point in the film.
In this interview, Hathaway tells Oprah about the surprise call she got while waiting to hear back about her “Dark Knight Rises” audition.
“CAPTAIN AMERICA’S” RED SKULL REVEALED – Entertainment Weekly had the exclusive first look this week at Hugo Weaving (“The Matrix,” “V For Vendetta”) in full make-up and costume as the evil Red Skull in this summer’s “Captain America.” Access can share that image with you now as well.
The villain will take on Chris Evans’ super solider serum enhanced Steve Rogers in the 1940’s set film that will serve as one of Marvel Studios’ lead-in films to 2012’s “The Avengers.”
NEW “X-MEN: FIRST CLASS” IMAGES SURFACE – 20th Century Fox released new images from the upcoming “X-Men: First Class,” including a peek at the villains of the film that take charge of The Hellfire Club.
A new still reveals Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and January Jones as Emma Frost, also known as The Hellfire Club’s Black King and White Queen.
Two new international posters were released that literally and figuratively reflect the origins nature of the film’s storyline. They depict Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto) and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier (Professor X) years before they become arch enemies in the later “X-Men” films.

‘STAR WARS’ SAGA IN 3D TARGETS FEBRUARY 2012 RELEASE – Fans can pencil in February 10, 2012 as the release date of the first chapter in the series set for big screen 3D. If all goes according to plan, Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox will release the six “Star Wars” films in the saga’s chronological order, starting with “Episode I: The Phantom Menace.” As the films hit the big screen annually to allow each film to be painstakingly converted to 3D, fans will have to wait it out until 2015 to see Luke Skywalker blow up the Death Star in 1977’s “Episode IV: A New Hope” and 2016 to hear Darth Vader deliver the immortal line “I am your father” in “Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.” And no 3D Ewoks until 2017!
CHRIS NOLAN TOPS NEW “BLADE RUNNER” PRODUCERS MOST WANTED LIST – Hot on the heels on the announcement that the rights to the groundbreaking sci-fi film “Blade Runner” have been acquired by Alcon Entertainment, io9 caught up with producers Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Bud Yorkin to discuss their plans for the future of the franchise.
They revealed, to many fans’ relief, that they cannot remake the iconic film starring Harrison Ford, and would ideally want none other than Christopher Nolan (who they worked with on “Insomnia”), to take the project to the next level.
“To be clear, we cannot remake ‘Blade Runner.’ As a legal matter, we have not bought the remake rights. We have no interest in remaking it. We can only do prequels or sequels,” Kosove revealed to io9.
“But I think the methodology that Chris Nolan brought to ‘Batman’ is precisely what we aspire to whomever the filmmaker is, whether Ridley comes back and joins us or it’s someone else. It’s precisely what we aspire to with ‘Blade Runner,’ that’s the template for us,” he said.
