With a set of out-of-this-world pipes, two Grammy awards and a new album that’s taken the world by storm, it’s hard to imagine that Adele falls victim to performance anxiety.
However, the British songstress says stage fright has caused her to run away from performing – literally!
“I’m scared of audiences,” Adele told Rolling Stone in an interview for their April 15 issue. “… One show in Amsterdam, I was so nervous I escaped out the fire exit. I’ve thrown up a couple of times.
“Once in Brussels, I projectile-vomited on someone,” she continued. “I just gotta bear it. But I don’t like touring. I have anxiety attacks a lot.”
The “Rolling In The Deep” singer’s stage fright isn’t limited to just audiences – Adele revealed she adopted an alter ego, much like Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce, after receiving an overwhelming compliment from the diva herself.
“I was about to meet Beyoncé and I had a full-blown anxiety attack,” she told the mag. “Then she popped in looking gorgeous, and said, ‘You’re amazing! When I listen to you I feel like I’m listening to God.’
“Can you believe she said that? I went out on the balcony crying hysterically, and I said, ‘What would Sasha Fierce do?’” she continued. “That’s when Sasha Carter [a blend of Sasha Fierce and June Carter] was born.”
The 22-year-old artist is incredibly close with her mother, as the pair faced the world solo after Adele’s father, Mark Evans, left the family when she was just 3-years-old.
Mark recently spoke to the UK’s The Sun regarding his estranged daughter — an action that greatly angered the singer.
“I never knew my dad,” she told the mag. “He has no f**kin’ right to talk about me.”
Adele also admitted she has an aversion to workouts and would rather enjoy “fine foods” and “nice wine” than cut calories in order to flaunt her body in tiny costumes like some of her pop star colleagues.
“Even if I had a really good figure, I don’t think I’d get my t*ts and a** out for no one,” she told the mag. “… I love seeing Katy Perry’s boobs and bum…but that’s not what my music is about. I don’t make music for eyes, I make music for ears.”
