Adele Is The Favorite To Win At Mercury Awards

British soul singer Adele hopes to cap a spectacular year by winning the Mercury Award for Album of the Year — the U.K. music industry’s most prestigious prize for original music.

Adele been dominating album and single charts across the globe since the release of “21” in January. Her single “Someone Like You” has become the summer anthem of 2011.

She is one of 12 nominees, including four female singer/songwriters — fellow Brit School student Katie B, previous winner PJ Harvey and Anna Calvi, nominated for her self-titled debut album.

Other competition comes from double Brit award winner Tinie Tempah for his hit album “Disco-Overy,” and previous Mercury winners Elbow, whose album, “Build A Rocket Boys!” is enjoying widespread acclaim.

London’s Grosvenor Hotel hosts the awards show Tuesday night.
