Alec Baldwin On Running For Mayor Of New York City: ‘I Wouldn’t Rule It Out’

Will Alec Baldwin finally throw his hat in the political ring?

According to The Daily, a friend of the “30 Rock” star said the 53-year-old is considering running for mayor of New York City in the 2013 race – and Congressman Anthony Weiner’s recent scandal appears to have inspired Alec.

“Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted,’” Alec’s friend told The Daily, referring to Weiner’s desire to run for the job.

“The Democrats need a high-profile candidate, and Alec can fill that bill,” the friend added.

On Wednesday morning, Alec told Access Hollywood that he’s open to the possibility of a bid for the mayor’s job.

“I wouldn’t rule it out,” Alec told Access.

The longtime Democrat and ardent supporter of President Obama has toyed with the idea of running for office for years.

Most recently, Alec told CNN’s Eliot Spitzer in January that he was “very interested” in running for office. He told Spitzer that he’d been approached about running in races outside of New York, but said he wanted to continue living in New York City.

“I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle class… would like to seek public office,” Alec said at the time.

NYC’s current mayor, Michael Bloomberg, is not expected to run again in the 2013 race.
