Ali Landry: Mario Lopez’s Infidelity ‘Was The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me’

Ali Landry went through an emotional roller coaster following the split from her husband of two weeks, Mario Lopez, in 2004 after learning of multiple alleged infidelities on his part, but the actress says while making the decision to leave was difficult, it was worth it.

“We were together for six years, but as soon as I found out numerous things – like, the floodgates were opened and the water just came rushing through – so once I found out all this stuff [and] I got proof of everything, I immediately [ended it],” Ali told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover of her relationship with Mario on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live. “I started talking to a lot of people, so I found out a lot of stuff, and then… [it was] terrible.”

“A little roaming?” Billy asked.

“A little?! Like, a lot,” Ali exclaimed. “But that’s OK. It prepared me for my husband, who I really feel is a gift.”

The 39-year-old mom –who is now happily married to director Alejandro Monteverde – said the decision to end her brief marriage to Mario was heartbreakingly tough.

“A marriage is a very, very big deal, so it wasn’t just like, ‘Oh yeah, get married, get divorced.’ For me, my parents are still together. The sacrament of marriage for me is very, very important,” she said. “So I never even knew anyone who did that to someone else – didn’t even know that was possible, like [from] someone you trusted and loved. I was blindsided. The rug was pulled out from underneath me.”

Despite the humiliation of the situation, Ali said looking back, she’s at peace with what happened, as it led her to a much more satisfying life.

“I feel like today, I am a better person because of it and I really look back and think that was the best thing that ever happened to me,” she said. “It changed me as a woman, you know, just the way I sort of walk through this world. Something was really terrible, but something absolutely wonderful came from it. That’s all you can really ask for.”
