Alison Sweeney Talks ‘Days Of Our Lives’ Exit; Will Sami Return?

Alison Sweeney is saying goodbye to “Days of our Lives” this week.

The actress has played Sami Brady on the soap opera for almost 22 years. Why did she choose to leave the show now?

“It just felt right,” Ali – who also hosts NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” – told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Monday’s Access Hollywood Live. “I talked to my husband about it. I did ‘Biggest Loser’ and ‘Days’ [simultaneously] for seven years. It’s been a long time and a lot of no sleep!

“I think I just finally decided that I was ready to take a leap of faith with wanting to do other things, try new sides to my career, spend more time with my kids,” she added.

The actress, whose new novel “Scared Scriptless” is available now, said she’s not nervous about leaving “Days,” but knows it will be emotionally tough.

“I’m not scared… but I know that I will miss Sami,” she said. “And I will miss my friends and the family that I have at the ‘Days’ set… They’re my family and I’ve been doing it for almost 22 years.”

Alison said Sami’s exit is written in a way that leaves it open for her to come back in the future. Would she ever return to “Days” to play Sami?

“Yes, the door is open. There’s potential,” she said. “And I hope I come back — I would love to.”
