All Access: Nancy O’Dell’s Baby Shower!

It was definitely one of the best days I have ever had!

I knew the baby shower would be fun, but I truly did not realize just HOW INCREDIBLE of a day it would be. The shower was given by three of my girlfriends…Courtney Thompson, who has been a friend of mine for 10 years now, Karen Knopp who is the makeup artist at Access Hollywood, and Nicole Allowitz who is the wardrobe stylist at Access (we spend so much time together every day we have forged tight friendships! )

The day started with the shower hosts and I getting ready in a room at the Viceroy, the venue where the shower was held. What a blast we had laughing and reminiscing as we pulled out the mascara, blush and hairspray! Then we proceeded down to the room where the shower was held. My girlfriends had so kindly thought of EVERYTHING, all with special meaning…from decorating with little bunnies because bunnies will be a predominant decoration in my nursery to all the fun “you’re having a girl” stuff to the guest registry book to help me remember every moment…even a cake made out of donuts!!! (because that is one thing I have been craving lately…or let’s say my baby girl has…sounds better for the baby to crave the donuts(-: ).

Then I look around and see so many faces of my dear friends…over 35 of my girlfriends came out to celebrate…all of them having played a special part in my life in one way or another. I just got the warmest feeling looking around the room and realized how lucky I am to have such dear friends! One friend even dropped her schedule and flew on a RED EYE from NYC to make the shower for a few hours and flew back! I had the best time catching up with them all. I had the time to go around the room and hear about their families and get updated on their children and then get all kinds of pregnancy, birthing, and first year advice. The best thing about having such close friends is they will be honest. One friend even shared with me that labor “makes you feel like your butt is falling off”…OOOHHH, but ahhh, it will all be worth it!

Then the hosts had games planned…oh my, the string game. You know, where the girlfriends guess how big your belly is by looking and then cut off a string the length of their guess. Man oh man, most of my girlfriends missed…and erred by several inches on the larger side!!!! Shaun, my co-worker, was very kind and came over with the string only about an inch-long…I teasingly told her she had accidentally measured herself(she has this tiny, perfectly fit body!).

Then the gals showered me with the most amazingly precious little gifts. I swear my baby girl has more clothes than I do now. In fact, I just added an extra clothes pole in the nursery closet! Then the day came to an end. I felt I didn’t want it to be over as I saw my girlfriends heading out one by one. It made me realize even more how important close people are in your life and that we should all try to find the time to spend with those special people.

So, thanks BIG TIME to my girlfriend hosts who threw the shower and gave me one of the best days in my life! And thanks to all my other gals who took time out of their busy schedules to be there. I realized how crazed I have been lately and I need to stop and smell the roses more often. So I have made a vow to do that (somewhere in between the diaper changing, burping, breastfeeding, and blessing of a very, very special little girl about to come into my life).
