‘American Idol’ Offers Results Shocker As Men Come Under Fire

After three weeks of sending women home, “American Idol” took aim at the men.

After Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly and Andrew Garcia landed in the bottom three, host Ryan Seacrest sat the teenage Aaron back down, leaving the two older contestants facing elimination.

“Two fathers, both trying to make a better life for their families,” Ryan said, before revealing the contestant with the lowest total of votes: Big Mike.

After the shocking reveal, the singer took the stage for a gospel-inflected take on Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work” to try to earn the judges’ save – and he got it!

“We all wish you did something like that yesterday,” Simon Cowell said. “This is why you’re in the position you’re in right now, because of what happened yesterday. We only have one save in the competition, and this is unanimous – we have decided we’re going to see you next week.”

To start the show, the nine remaining contestants kicked things off with a Beatles medley after singing classics from Paul McCartney and John Lennon on Wednesday.

Early on, Ryan declared Crystal Bowersox safe – as well as Katie Stevens and Siobhan Magnus.

Jason Derulo and “Idol” alum David Archuleta joined the episode for performances, with Derulo doing his own hits while Archie stuck with the Beatles theme, singing a tender version of John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

“You always feel like you’re going to get judged!” Archuleta told Ryan after his performance on whether he was nervous to return to the “Idol” stage, adding that he’s working on his next album.

Later in the show, Rihanna took to the stage to debut her new single, “Rock Star 101,” but first the bottom three were revealed: Michael, Aaron and Andrew, with Michael and Andrew left to sweat through the R&B star’s heated performance.

Next week, as a result of the judges using their save, two contestants will go home, with “Idol” Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert returning to the show as the week’s mentor.
