The apple didn’t fall far from the “American Idol” tree for Season 1 alum Nikki McKibbin.
On Thursday night’s show, the singer’s 15-year-old son, Tristen Langly, auditioned for the Fox reality series that made his mom a household name back in 2002.
Nikki accompanied Tristen into the audition room, where he sang Sublime’s “Santeria” for judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban – none of whom were on the “Idol” panel when Nikki was a part of the show.

Tristen’s performance earned him a “no” from Harry, but a “yes” from J.Lo and Keith, sending him through to the Hollywood rounds.
Nikki’s son made his “Idol” debut when he was just 4 years old, when he handed his mom a rose during one of her performances on the reality singing competition.
