Andrew Dice Clay: I Thought Woody Allen Was ‘Kidding’ About Casting Me In Blue Jasmine

Andrew Dice Clay has a role in Woody Allen’s new drama, “Blue Jasmine,” and the comedian says he was shocked when he got the call to meet with the iconic writer/director.

“[Woody] called my management [after] he saw me doing the character on ‘Entourage’ and when my manager called me about going in to see Woody, I actually thought he was kidding around with me,” Andrew told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Friday’s Access Hollywood Live. “‘Cause of out of all of the producers, directors in Hollywood I would think that Woody wouldn’t be the one to make that call.”

When the comedian arrived for his first meeting with the film legend he was quick to assert that he was able to drop his “Dice” act.

“When I walked in [for the meeting], it’s the casting [agent] who brought me in, and Woody was standing, I walked in and I went, ‘How ya doin?’” he joked. “No. Actually, I said to him, I go, ‘I want you to know that Andrew’s in the building – not Dice.’ ‘Cause I didn’t want him to think I was so that guy, you know what I mean?

“He goes ‘We’re doing a little movie and would you read a few pages?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, that’s why I’m here, right?’” he added.

Once filming began, Andrew said he and Woody had a great time.

“We got along great and on the set he was really cool,” he said. “We would talk about stand-up and he started out where I started out.”

Adding, “And we’re both from Brooklyn, so there was some camaraderie there.”

And, if you can picture this, the funnyman said Woody not only knew, but performed a couple of Dice’s infamous, dirty nursery rhymes.

“He started doing them! He said, ‘Well, I know the Hickory Dickery Dock routine,’” he said.
