Andy Samberg Feeling ‘Calm’ Ahead Of Hosting Sunday’s Emmys

Sunday night “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Andy Samberg will take to the stage as host of the Emmys, but he’s not sweating it.

On Wednesday, as the red carpet was rolled out, first-time host Andy seemed cool, calm and collected.

“Yeah, right now I am,” Andy told Access Hollywood. “It’s pretty early for me. I’m used to ‘SNL’ where you don’t freak out until the night of the show, and you know, the like pressure of, ‘This is gonna air live and we have to figure out what it is’ — I did seven years of that. So, you know, in the end it’s going to be the Emmys and we’ll do the best version of it we can and I feel really happy with the material that we’re working with so far, and I know were going to write more good stuff and then pare it down, so I’m excited. And yeah, I do genuinely feel pretty calm about it.”

In addition to his live TV background, Andy has had a close pal to turn to for support – his former “SNL” co-star, and last year’s Emmys host, Seth Meyers.

“Yeah, I spoke with Seth. [I asked him] really like specific questions like, ‘Do I have to attend the rolling out of the red carpet event? Seems kind of early and antiquated,'” Andy joked. “And he was like, ‘No, yeah, I did it.’ And I was, ‘All right, I’ll do it.’ But yeah, generally just minutiae [like] ‘Who do I talk to about this?’ That kind of stuff, but Seth and I are very close, so he’s pretty much there for me no matter how stupid or small the question is.”

Andy was very tight-lipped about the makeup of the show. When Access asked about digital shorts, he would only confirm there is some pre-recorded material on the way. He was equally quiet about the possibility of something to do with Fox hit “Empire” (Fox is the network airing the Emmys this year), telling Access simply, “‘Empire’ will definitely be mentioned.”

As the hours tick down, Andy said there are still things to prepare.

“The show is not entirely written, but a ton of things that will end up in the show have been written,” he said. “I predict that more things that will end up in the show will be written between now and Sunday because, you know, we’re going to have to adjust our monologue jokes especially to match what’s happening in the news. It’s not dissimilar from ‘SNL’ in that way. You have to be hitting it right as it’s happening.

“We have a lot of good stuff to choose from, I’m feeling very happy about it,” he said.
