Angelina Jolie’s Film Halted From Filming In Sarajevo

Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut was reportedly halted from filming in Bosnia’s capital city of Sarajevo.

According to the BBC, the Eastern European country’s culture minister revoked the as-of-yet-untitled film’s permit after a screenplay was reportedly not included with the application – something that is reportedly required by law in Bosnia.

Variety reported that Jolie’s film, starring Zana Marjanovic and Rade Serbedzija, is about a love affair between a Serbian man and Bosnian woman during the 1992-1995 war that ravaged the region.

The BBC reported that the Women Victims of War association grew outraged after reports surfaced claiming the plot of the film was about a Serbian rapist and his Muslim victim.

The Bosnian culture minister reportedly cancelled the film’s permit after meeting with members of the group.

Jolie reportedly contacted the group and asked that they not judge the project until they had seen it finished.

Edin Sarkic, the film’s executive producer and location manager, told Reuters that the film’s plot is not about the group’s concerns.

“We were informed today that we need to amend the documentation and I have just forwarded the script to the ministry,” Sarkic told the news agency. “I hope the film will get the green light after the officials see the script. The film has nothing to do with the allegation made by this women’s association. As we said before, it is only a love story.”

Jolie’s rep told Reuters that film was being shot in Hungary reports of protests about the film were “not true.”
