Anne Hathaway Says Katie Holmes ‘SNL’ Impersonation Was More ‘Dawson’s’ Joey Potter

Anne Hathaway returned to host NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” for her second time over the weekend and she brought a couple of new impersonations with her – one of which was none other than actress Katie Holmes!

During “The Miley Cyrus Show” sketch, in which “SNL” featured player Vanessa Bayer plays the teen star hosting her own talk show, Anne appeared and impersonated fellow big screen beauty Katie, exaggerating the actress’ mannerisms, voice and very dramatic pauses – but Anne claims the imitation was her way of flattering Katie’s onscreen work.

“I was a teenager when ‘Dawson’s Creek’ was airing, and I was a pretty avid fan, so it just sort of came from that,” Anne told The Hollywood Reporter. “It wasn’t really Katie Holmes; it was more [her ‘Creek’ character] Joey Potter.”

The “Love and Other Drugs” star told the mag that her fans appear to be pleased with her comedic skills during her second time hosting the NBC series.

“The first time, I’d never done anything like that, and so there wasn’t the pressure of expectation,” Anne explained. “So, I was a little more nervous going into it, with ‘would they like it or wouldn’t they?’ But people seem really happy with the results. So I’m thrilled.”

Anne returns to the big screen on Wednesday in “Love and Other Drugs” co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
