Anne Hathaway’s Ex Granted Extended Jail Stay

Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, will sit in a Manhattan jail for at least an extra week — and it’s actually his choice.

While no one at the U.S. Attorneys office in New York would comment, Access Hollywood has learned that Follieri, who was slated to learn his fate on September 5, stemming from 12 counts, including wire fraud and money laundering, asked that a grand jury’s preliminary hearing be postponed another week until September 12.

According to a law enforcement source, on September 12, three possible scenarios can take place — a grand jury will decide whether or not to indict him; he can plead guilty; or the case will again be pushed back.

It is possible that Follieri is taking the additional days to try to work out a plea deal, rather than face one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, six counts of wire fraud, and five counts of money laundering, which in total could result in a maximum sentence of 225 years behind bars.

In the meantime, news has surfaced that on June 23, the night before Follieri was arrested, Hathaway dumped the dashing Italian over the phone, gently telling him, “You were the love of my life. I’ll always love you. You know that, baby.”

According to the latest issue of Vanity Fair, Follieri even had Hathaway pick up a monthly rent of $37,000 so he could live the high life in a duplex in New York’s exclusive Olympic Tower.

Mostly though, Follieri threw around his alleged ill-gotten gains in order to pamper Hathaway.

Michael Shnayerson, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair, told Access Hollywood that “almost everything Raffaello did was to impress Anne.”

And Follieri spared no expense on “The Devil Wears Prada” star.

He spent $3,000 a night to rent a luxurious home in the Bahamas for a getaway, and even chartered a $107,000 jet so the couple could ring in the New Year with the Clintons at a dinner party in the home of designer Oscar De La Renta.

“It seems clear this was a lifestyle that did dazzle her,” said Shnayerson.

But it was reportedly just six hours after Hathaway’s loving last call, Follieri’s life came crashing down, and he currently is being held in a far less glamorous New York City jail on $21 million bail.

The handsome alleged hustler is scheduled to learn his fate in the next two weeks.
