Aretha Franklin Cancels Concerts Due To Fractured Ribs, Is Looking To Reschedule

Aretha Franklin has canceled two free concerts in Brooklyn next week because of an injury, her reps told Access Hollywood in a statement.

The Queen of Soul was set to perform at an annual summer concert series presented by Marty Markowitz, the Brooklyn Borough President, at Wingate Field in East Flatbush on August 9 and Asser Levy Park in Brighton Beach on August 12, but is suffering from abdomen pain due to fractured ribs. Her doctors advised her to come in for tests right away.

The shows were to be Aretha’s first concerts in Brooklyn.

In the statement, Aretha expressed her disappointment.

“I was very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot long hot dog at Coney Island,” she said. “Hopefully, I will get it before the end of August.”

The singer was also scheduled to perform at Congressman Rangel’s 80th birthday party on August 11.

“I will really miss that nice slice of cake from Congressman Charlie Rangel’s birthday party and singing happy birthday to him,” she added.

William Morris Endeavor Entertainment will announce the rescheduled concert dates at a later time.
