Ashanti Talks New Album: ‘I’ve Done A Lot Of Growing Up’

It’s been a long time in the making, but Ashanti is finally heading back with her fourth studio album, “The Declaration,” early next year.

“It’s been about three years in between albums,” the R&B princess said backstage at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. “I’ve done a lot of growing up. It’s very deep and a little bit edgier than my previous [records], so I’m excited.”

The singer confirmed her new album features production from the likes of Pharrell Williams, Jermaine Dupri, LT Hutton and Babyface. Pharrell and Robin Thicke both sing on the record, she also said.

“[I’ve used] a lot of different people so the sound is definitely, a little bit more mature than previous albums,” she noted.

Ashanti will next take to the stage, or should we say field, to help promote the upcoming release this coming Thursday.

“I’m gonna be singing at the Dallas game on Thanksgiving,” she said. “I’ll have turkey at midnight.”

As for her plans for the New Years, Ashanti is pretty much set on simply breaking out her album.

“2008 is gonna be a big year, a lot of new music,” she said. “I’m excited”
