Ashton Kutcher On His ‘Killers’ ‘Piracy’: ‘The Film’s Good Enough To Sell Itself’

Ashton Kutcher live-streamed the opening scenes of his new movie, “Killers,” from the film’s LA premiere on Tuesday night, and the actor explained his “piracy” broadcast to Access Hollywood on the red carpet.

“The film’s good enough to sell itself,” he told Access. “I just wanted to show people that.”

He added that “piracy” – a controversial term given the film industry’s battle against the multitude of illegal downloads done daily online – may soon be an outdated term.

“Everybody calls people airing stuff on the Web ‘Piracy’ just ‘cause they’re not making money off of it yet,” Ashton said. “If they can figure out how to make money off of it, they won’t call it ‘Piracy’ anymore.”

In the meantime, he thinks that giving people a taste of his film will be enough to get them into theaters.

“I think if we show the first 13 minutes of the movie and if people like it they’ll go see it,” he said.

While Ashton’s known for his online savvy as one of Twitter’s most popular stars, he was overtaken recently by Britney Spears, whose account (written mainly by her manager and Web team) now boasts over 5 million followers.

“You know, good for her,” he said. “I think I do very different things with my Twitter stream than what she does.”
