Avril Lavigne Shares Engagement Details: Chad Kroeger & I Live Together, We’re ‘Planning’ Our Wedding

Avril Lavigne got engaged to Chad Kroeger in August 2012 and the pop punk princess dished on the details of the romantic proposal during a visit to Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday.

“He proposed in the studio — that’s where we met, in the studio where we made my record at,” Avril told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, when asked where the Nickelback frontman popped the question.

The soon-to-be-married Canadian singers were friends at first, having met when Chad the now-couple got together to co-write a song for Avril’s new album. Soon after, sparks were flying!

“We were working together having a good time, bro-ing out, having a good time,” she said. “We started off as friends goofing around and then turned into something else.”

Chad – who proposed with a 14-carat ring – matches everything Avril was looking for in a man.

“I had said I want to date someone 10 years older than me and he’s exactly 10 years older,” the 28-year-old said. “He’s got it together, he’s mature, he’s done this thing, he’s lived life. He’s been around the world on tour, I’ve been around the world on tour.

“We can really relate over a lot of things and we really just bonded over music and songwriting,” she added.

The singer — whose new single, “Here’s To Never Growing Up,” is out now — said she and Chad are living together now, and working on wedding plans.

“I want to do something special and unique [for our wedding],” Avril said. “I’m planning now.”

Avril’s new album will be released in the fall.
