Avril Lavigne Talks Brit & Spit

NEW YORK (April 19, 2007) — Canadian singer Avril Lavigne released her third CD, ?The Best Damn Thing,? this week. And she proved to Access Hollywood she isn?t shy about pointing out she?s anything but like her pop peers. In her current video for “Girlfriend,” a dance routine the blonde vocalist performs has brought her comparisons to Britney Spears.?Comparing me to Britney,? Avril guffaws. ?Whatever, like it’s totally different.?Avril told Access she is looking forward to taking her new batch of songs on the road.?I just want to have a really good and fun show and a lot of these songs are very you know are gonna be good on stage,? she says. ?I wrote this with tour in mind.?

Happily married to fellow rocker Deryck Whibley, and for the most part scandal free, 22 year old Avril is pioneering a rare path in today?s young Hollywood.Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent asked her how she?s managed to avoid heading down the Britney route.?I don’t know her and her situation but personally me with dealing with fame, I feel like anything in life you have to have a balance and it’s important for me to be at home and to have a normal life,? she explains. So how has she managed to do that??You make the decision do you want to be photographed or not,? she continues. ?You can control it to a certain extent. Paparazzi hang out at certain areas of LA and I usually go to more low key places.?But when Avril does go out, she has found herself in the glare of the flashbulb, including one time last year where she spat at a photog.?I’ve been spitting on paparazzi for like two years and the one time that one night that I did it everyone made like the biggest deal about it,? she says. ?It’s actually not even serious. It’s like they love it because it’s something for them to have. They’re like ?Avril! Avril,? and I?m like ?F*** you.? And then they love it. They ask for it and they love it.?
