Backstage Emmys: Inside The Presenters Gift Lounge

OK, so you have seen the all the red carpet fashions and picked your best and worst dressed. You’ve heard what the winners had to say after their acceptance speeches. Now we’ve got some insight into the unseen moments backstage inside the Nokia Theatre.

There is a place underneath the stage where presenters, nominees and winners converge to unwind and relax but, more importantly, make a charitable donation all while picking up some fun gifts.

The Emergen-C Gift Lounge presented by On 3 Productions was the place to be over the weekend. Just for stopping by this ultra swank lounge, Bertolli Sauces and Frozen Meals made a donation to charity on behalf of the stars. A portion of the donation will benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Dream Street Foundation. While most stars stuck around to grab some goodies, a few stars popped into the lounge just to make a donation and leave the gifts behind, including Connie Britton, Mindy Kaling, Tina Fey and Jon Stewart.

Rather than roasting outside on the red carpet on Sunday night (at what turned out to be one of the hottest Emmy nights ever) the stars chose to cool off in the lounge. Eric Stonestreet chugged down a cold glass of Emergen-C and joked, “It was 114 degrees on the red carpet and 141 degrees in my pants!” The “Modern Family” star brought along two of his best friends from college, Paul and Shane. We tried to get some scoop on what the Emmy winner was like in college but Eric made sure they kept mum, “They know to shut up!”

“Two Broke Girls” star Kat Dennings and her actor boyfriend Nick Zano were the first to arrive from the red carpet. The cute couple joked around with each other while trying hats on each other by New Era Cap Co. and making their best game faces.

Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak (who is currently helping Jessica Simpson get in post-baby shape) was on hand to show off New Balance’s latest design — the 1010 sneaker. Hayden Panettiere, soon to be featured in ABC’s “Nashville,” joked she wanted to switch out of her heels and spend the rest of the night in the sneakers. She didn’t.

Before “Breaking Bad’s” Aaron Paul won his Best Supporting Actor Emmy, he stopped in the lounge with his fiancé Lisa. Both were excited about the charity aspect of the lounge as Lisa has her own non-profit organization called Kind Campaign. “She’s the most inspiring woman that I have ever met,” Aaron sweetly told Access Hollywood.

While he may play a womanizer on FOX’s “New Girl,” Supporting Actor Comedy nominee Max Greenfield certainly doesn’t hold that title in real life. He brought along his wife of 4 years, Tess, who was eager to dispel the myth that Max is anything like his character Schmidt. “He is not who he plays on TV,” Tess explained. “He has chores. He has errands. I make lists every day. He is given assignments. I check off on the list stuff that he has completed and then I circle stuff that he hasn’t!” Well, I guess we know which one of the couple will be using the Black and Decker platinum hand vacuums they picked up in the lounge.

As the red carpet continued outside, inside “Modern Family’s” Ed O’Neill and also Glenn Close escaped the heat and got a soothing hand massage from the ladies of CND Shellac Manicures who were gifting celebrities their nail polish which lasts 14 days with no chipping. We tried to talk Ed into trying a nice hot pink polish but he wasn’t budging.

“Big Bang Theory” nominee Mayim Bialik was one of the last stars in the lounge before the show started. With just a few minutes before show time, a team swarmed in to usher her to her seat since her category was up towards the beginning of the show. The star was sad to miss some of the fun freebies but was able to grab a few things, including a gift certificate for Zerona Body Sculpting Treatments. The non-invasive, pain free laser is rumored to have helped Britney Spears get back in tip top shape.

“Homeland’s” stunning Morena Baccarin was one of the last ladies in the lounge before the show started. She checked out watches by Aquaswiss and was super excited to score the TiVo Premiere which can record up to four shows at once. With “Homeland” starting its second season this Sunday night on Showtime, lots of folks might be needing that. Baccarin gave us the scoop on the first episode back. “It picks up about six months to a year later,” she explained. “Brody is a congressman. I’m a congressman’s wife which I am loving very much. I get great outfits. It just gets right into it. It actually is a bit slower in the beginning but by the end of the episode a lot has been revealed and we start on that breathless pace all over again.”

The Emmy show got underway and that didn’t stop celebrities from vacating their seats for a while. Michael J Fox, his wife Tracey Pollan and their son stopped in the lounge midway through. Tracey fell in love with the stunning jewelry from Jill Reno Collection while Michael and his son checked out custom molded earphones by Ultimate Ears by Logitech.

“American Horror Story’s” Zachary Quinto also stopped in during the show and grabbed jeans by paper denim & cloth, a favorite among jeans-wearing celebrities. Quinto was tight lipped about his new character on season 2 of AHS, which is set in an insane asylum except to explain the show is so scary you might want to watch in the morning rather than its regular 10 PM time slot. We can’t wait!
