Lucas Hood can’t walk through the town of “Banshee” without attracting attention, but actor Antony Starr, who plays the tough anti-hero, is quite happy to avoid the spotlight.
“It’s relatively tame,” he told Access Hollywood about getting recognized for his stateside role. “Which, to be honest, I’m a really private person, so it kind of works for me. The more time I have without that happening, I’m OK with that. It’s one of those things, you know… I do value my privacy and that’s gonna be something that’s interesting if and when the show starts becoming a bit more mainstream.”
“Banshee” will conclude its Season 2 run Friday night at 10 PM ET/PT on Cinemax, and Antony’s character heads into it with a lot (Chayton, Proctor, Brock and Gordon, Rabbit) of enemies.
“This is where this character thrives,” Antony said of Lucas. “He’s not the kind of guy that’s gonna settle down in suburbia and look at the library in content. He needs to have that adrenalized lifestyle to really feel that he’s alive in a lot of ways.
“When we first started, we were very careful to keep him pretty contained and have a real ‘less is more’ philosophy so we didn’t really know what was going on with the character. And… slowly, as the series progressed [in] Season 1, the character really shifted and then in Season 2, we’re trying to add a lot more humor, deliberately, to put it in there, to lighten things up a little bit and just show that he’s adapting and finding it easier to socialize in the outside world and letting go of that really… sort of emancipating himself from the inside,” Antony continued. “And that will continue into Season 3. I’ve heard the plans already and there’s an extension of that growth and that development into Season 3, so it’s going to be really exciting.”
After Friday’s Season 2 finale, “Banshee” will be back next year on Cinemax, but Antony is already eating right in preparation for Season 3 shooting.
“I’ve already started that,” he said, when Access asked if he’s putting away desserts and focusing on the protein. “If I started that now, it’d be too late – the amount of pudding I’ve been eating! But yeah… look, I know what I’m in for. I think you learn pretty quick what the demands of the show were in Season 2. It didn’t back off at all from Season1 and I doubt Season 3’s gonna back off from Season 2. So going in forewarned is forearmed and with [my] wrist injury [Editor’s note: Antony had surgery for a non-work related injury]… I had a significant chunk of time where I wasn’t allowed to do anything. It’s been a pretty tricky recovery process, but I’ve got a really good gym around me down here at the moment, so we’re right on track.”
