“Zoolander 2” is definitely still in the works, Ben Stiller confirmed to AccessHollywood.com on Thursday night.
“Well, we’re writing the script now,” Ben told Access on the red carpet at the premiere of his latest film, the more serious “Greenberg,” at Los Angeles’ ArcLight cinema.
Ben said the team behind the first film, which paired him on the big screen opposite Owen Wilson as Derek Zoolander’s model nemesis, the one-named Hansel, and alongside his wife, actress Christine Taylor, are in place.
“I think everybody wants to do it,” the star said. “We just want to make sure we get a good script and do a good job.”
But as for when “Zoolander 2” might start filming, Ben said that is in the works.
“Hopefully soon,” he said. “We really want to do it.”
As for another Stiller-fronted franchise, “Night At The Museum,” when Access mentioned that co-screenwriter Thomas Lennon recently revealed he is working on a script, Ben perked up.
“I will read whatever Thomas Lennon writes because he is very talented,” Ben said.
Ben’s current project “Greenberg,” which hits theaters next month, allows theatergoers to see a more serious side of the actor, one he hasn’t shown in about a decade.
The movie, from Noah Baumbach, stars Ben as a somewhat uncomfortable-to-be-around failed rocker who heads to Los Angeles to look after his brother’s home while the sibling is away, a place he meets and engages in a romance with the brother’s assistant, Florence, played by Greta Gerwig. And taking a part in a movie that wasn’t laugh out loud funny was surprising easy for the star.
“Noah’s a great filmmaker and basically anything he would have sent me I probably would have done and I think he wrote a very specific complicated movie about real people,” Ben said. “And his characters are always so interesting. He just writes really, really interesting characters and they’re character oriented movies so, any chance to work with him…”
Ben added that he was thrilled about working with Greta, a luminous, fresh face on the scene, and one he thinks will go far.
“I think she’s incredible I think she’s just this amazing actress, she’s an amazing comedic actress, she’s got this beautiful spirit,” he said. “She’s incredibly self assured at a young age and she’s a really great person and I think it’s exciting to be in a movie with her that’s gonna introduce her to a lot of people.”
