Benjamin Bratt has been fortunate enough to lock lips with a slew of Hollywood’s hottest leading ladies, but are his onscreen kisses the real deal or faked for the camera?
“In general, tongue doesn’t really translate,” the “Private Practice” star told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live.
“In real life, tongue is where it’s at!” the actor, who plays Dr. Jake Reilly on the ABC series, continued. “But on TV, not so much. On TV, it doesn’t really look so appealing.”
One thing that is appealing – and appears to be mandatory – is fresh breath when getting up close and personal with a co-star.
“I think it is actor law, in the bylaw book for being an actor, if you’re going to kiss somebody, you have to chew a mint or a stick of gum,” he explained. “Anyone who I’ve ever worked with that I had to kiss, across the board, everyone is self-conscious, including myself.”
Benjamin, who said co-star Kate Walsh always has impeccable breath, ensures that his leading ladies never leave his lips gasping for air.
“You want to be appealing, it’s acting but you want it to work. You certainly don’t want to offend your co-star with bad breath,” the 47-year-old said.
In more Benjamin news, the star revealed that he’s slated to return to “Modern Family,” reprising the role of Manny’s father, Javier.
“I am [returning.]Javier is going to make an appearance. We’re going to tape sometime in November,” he told Billy and Kit. “That’s one of the best parties in town… great group of people. I’m looking forward to that.”
“Private Practice” airs at 10 PM on Thursdays on ABC.
