Bethany Mota: ‘Dancing’ Has ‘Given Me The Confidence To Take On New Challenges’

Bethany Mota is continuing to improve each week on “Dancing with the Stars” Season 19, with the help of her pro-partner Derek Hough.

Asked on Thursday’s Access Hollywood Live what has changed since she’s been on the show, the YouTube star told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover that the experience has helped give her more confidence.

“Coming from YouTube, if I ever made a mistake or messed up I’m like, ‘Oh, I can edit that out later and it’s fine because everything is pre-filmed,'” Bethany said.

“I really realized the first week [of ‘DWTS’], ‘Wait! If I mess up, everyone’s gonna see it and there’s nothing that I can do about it.’ So, I think it was just being in a place that was very unfamiliar for me that has given me the confidence to take on new challenges,” she added.

Bethany’s first brush with fame came from her YouTube channel and she told Billy and Kit she originally started making videos on the platform to find a voice when she was being bullied.

“I was actually cyber bullied by people that I knew,” Bethany said.

“It was people that I knew and… to this day, I still don’t know the reason why they felt the need to bully me, but, you know, they did for whatever reason. And being so young, I had never dealt with anything like that before, so I really took everything to heart and I really let it affect me in a really huge way. So YouTube eventually became my distraction,” she said.

Bethany said that with her YouTube channel, she found her voice.

“I just really loved the idea of having a voice all of a sudden when I felt like I didn’t have one and being able to speak to people all around the world,” she said.

Bethany and Derek compete again on “DWTS” this coming Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
