Despite recent reports, Betty White and Doris Roberts are not feuding.
Rumors of a possible catfight between the beloved acting icons began to swirl after Us Weekly released an article on Tuesday claiming the “Everybody Loves Raymond” star “cannot stand” Betty White.
However, in an interview on Wednesday with Billy Bush for Access Hollywood and “The Billy Bush Show,” Betty dispelled the rumors.
“A feud? With Doris Roberts? How could anybody have a feud with Doris Roberts?” the former “Golden Girl” laughed. “You know what? I came home late last night, and I left early this morning, and on my message service was a message from Doris. I’ve worked with Doris, but I haven’t seen in her ages and ages… maybe she’s calling me to tell me we’re having a feud!”
Betty fondly remembered Doris’ good humor as she and fellow comedienne Cloris Leachman performed a scene on “The Mary Tyler Moore” show together.
“We had a scene — Doris was the employment agent, and Cloris went in to get a job, and when Cloris walked on the set, she said ‘No, you can’t shoot me from that side,’” Betty told Billy. “Jay Sandrich, our director, said ‘You have to do that ‘cause the set’s all lit and everything.’ So she sat down but she turned her back on Doris – Doris had to play the whole scene to Cloris’ back.”
Doris also denied the catty story, telling Access, “I respect [Betty]. She is leading the way for all of us over 50. She is fabulous, she is wonderful.”
Betty, who currently stars in TV Land’s “Hot In Cleveland” and who recently won an Emmy Award for her “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig, said a future collaboration with Doris is not out of the question.
“I think a little bosom-buddy comedy out of the two of you might be pretty funny,” Billy suggested.
“We’d have a good time,” Betty agreed. “I’ll tell you that!”
